NATO DEFENSE COLLEGE  X MATHILDE FENGER

NATO DEFENSE COLLEGE x MATHILDE FENGER

Exactly one year from today NATO Defense College celebrates its 75th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Danish artist Mathilde Fenger is creating four unique artworks.

75 years ago, Dwight D. Eisenhower brought his ideas for a NATO-based educational and research institution to life - The NATO Defense College. These ideas and the following 75 years of development and results of the NATO institution will be depicted in four large scale paintings with references to NDC’s core pillars: Education, Engagement, and Research – with a fourth artwork exploring a potential future perspective.

In this short video, we invite you behind the scenes of the studio of Mathilde Fenger to observe the artistic process that shapes the works to be unveiled at the NATO Defense College's 75th anniversary on 19 June 2026 in Rome.
With the paintings still in progress, we’re excited to bring you along on the journey of this historic artistic project in the making.

Special thanks to the Commandant of the NATO Defense College Lieutenant General Max A.L.T. Nielsen  And a huge THANK YOU to our socially and culturally aware, committed and generous donors for helping to make this project a reality - for both the present and the future:
